Retail semantics
Pricing and offers
A trustworthy agent must explain the shape of a retail offer instead of compressing every amount into one misleading number.
Anatomy of a disclosure
| Layer | Meaning | Agent treatment |
|---|---|---|
| Advertised price | The dealer-published vehicle price before conditional programs. | State as published, with source and observation time. |
| Required dealer charges | Dealer-imposed charges that apply to every buyer in the disclosed context. | Itemize; do not hide them inside an unlabeled total. |
| Conditional adjustments | Discounts, rebates, incentives, or additions that depend on eligibility or behavior. | Keep separate and state conditions, validity, and stacking. |
| Government charges | Tax, title, registration, and similar amounts determined by jurisdiction and transaction facts. | Mark unknown or estimated unless the required inputs and authority are present. |
The safe equation
known universal subtotal
advertised price
required dealer charges
conditional adjustments only when eligibility is established
government charges only when determinable
= disclosed result with remaining unknownsNo invented out-the-door number. If tax, registration, buyer eligibility, financing choice, or other required context is unknown, the result must preserve that uncertainty.
Every conditional offer carries its conditions
The schema can express audience eligibility, geographic applicability, financing or trade requirements, validity windows, proof requirements, and stacking behavior. An agent should say “may qualify” until those conditions are resolved.
Money is typed
Amounts use a decimal string and ISO 4217 currency code. Implementations do not use binary floating-point values as the authoritative money representation.
